FISHING

Colorado has over 9,600 miles of streams and rivers ripe for fishing. That number doesn’t include the 2,800 plus lakes, including Grand Lake, either.

The most common fish in Grand Lake are Salmon (mackinaw lake trout and kokanee sockeye), that are found in the lake along with rainbow trout, brook trout, German brown trout, and cutthroat trout.

Anglers will be able to enjoy the perfect fishing holiday in Grand Lake, Colorado. The area’s lakes offer world-class fishing opportunities that allow you to catch all kinds of freshwater fish.

With fishing spots located right at the base of the Rocky Mountains, you can fish with a view and truly enjoy what the area has to offer. In the spring, expect relaxing weather and tons of fish to be caught. In the winter, there’s also ice fishing. And if you’ve never gone fly fishing, the rivers and streams around Grand Lake are a great place to start!

GEOCACHING

“Across The Divide” GeoTour features Rocky Mountain National Park and the mountain towns of Estes Park and Grand Lake. As you geocache from one village to the other, you will cross over the Continental Divide along Trail Ridge Road, reaching an altitude of 12,183 ft, as it passes through RMNP. This Centennial GeoAdventure first celebrated the 100th anniversary of RMNP. In 2016, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, established in 1916 with the passage of The Organic Act.

In RMNP, the Virtual Caches and EarthCaches have questions to answer, both on your passport and to log your find online. The GeoTour will take you to sights around Estes Park, over the continental divide and around the Town of Grand Lake.
