With the new year upon us, the staff at Western Riviera would like to wish you all the best for 2018! Many exciting events are paving our way into the new year including the first ice fishing contest of the year, and fun with cross-country skis and snowshoes at the Grand Lake Nordic Center and on Ranger-led programs in Rocky Mountain National Park.
“Snowshoe the Wilderness” with a Park Ranger in Rocky Mountain National Park! The FREE two-hour snowshoe tours are available Saturdays and Sundays, from now until March 4th. Personal snowshoes and ski poles with large baskets are required to participate, and all participants must be 8 years of age or older. Reservations are required and may be made no sooner than 7 days in advance by calling 970-627-3471.
The first Grand Lake Pond Hockey Classic will be held on January 20th, from 9:30am to 2pm, with three rinks on the lake. Join in on the fun as a participant or part of the cheering crowd! Teams will be 3 on 3, and all teams are guaranteed at least 3 games. All participants will receive welcome giveaways, and prizes will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place teams in each division. Beer tents will be set up, and food and drink deals will be available at local restaurants. Warm your toes to live Rock n’ Roll music at Pancho & Lefty’s! Register your team today!
The 30th Annual Three Lakes Ice Fishing Contest will be held January 26th through January 28th. This event consists of three 1-day contests – enter 1, 2, or all 3 days of the contest! Registration prior to fishing is required to be eligible to enter each contest. Don’t miss your chance at a bite of $18,000 in CASH prizes and lots of giveaways! First 500 entries receive a commemorative hat.
The Grand Lake Nordic Center hosts another Full Moon Ski event on Saturday, January 27th, from 5pm to 9pm. Don’t miss this incredible, once-a-month opportunity to ski by the light of the moon, followed by hot drinks near the bonfire, and dinner and drinks at the Sly Fox Restaurant. The FREE tubing hill will be lit for the event as well!
Winter Carnival is coming to the area February 10th, 2018. This annual event brings fun for the whole family, with a variety of events such as Human Bowling, Bed Sled Races and Tea Pot Curling. Businesses will boast their best snow sculpture following this year’s theme of “Superheroes and Cartoons,” and the Town Park will be filled with kids designing their best snowmen and playing miniature snow-golf. The evening ends with Grand Lake’s famous fireworks over the lake. Come play in the snow with us!
The Grand Lake Center is ready to help you burn off the holiday calories! Total Body Fitness is available from 9-10am, followed by Senior Fit from 10:15-11am, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Total Body Fitness is also offered on Saturday mornings from 10-11am. Complete Cardio & Weight Room facilities are available for $8 a day, and Open Gym is available for just $2 a day!
