Spend Your Holidays in the Colorado Rockies

Deck the halls, it’s Christmastime in the Rockies! Grand Lake, covered in white, is a picturesque winter wonderland this time of year, and winter activities abound. From warm evenings at the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theater to outdoor adventures on snowshoes, snowmobiles, and cross-country skis, there is exciting entertainment to be had by the whole family!


Have you been wanting to learn how to Cross Country ski, or learn more about classic or skate styles? Here’s your chance! FREE Cross Country Ski Lessons will be available on Sunday, December 17th at the Grand Lake Nordic Center. Morning and afternoon sessions are available for all skier levels, pre-registration required by calling the Grand Lake Nordic Center at 970-627-8008. Already know how to ski? Take advantage of the Full Moon Ski on Saturday, December 30th from 5-9pm! The Nordic Center is open daily with 35 kilometers of trails to explore. Bring the whole family and enjoy the FREE tubing hill!

More family fun can be found at the Kauffman House Museum! Open House will be held on Tuesday, December 26th and Wednesday, December 27th, from 1-4pm. Treats and tours are included with $5 admission.The Grand Lake Center is open daily, with the Complete Cardio & Weight Room facilities available for just $8 a day, Open Gym for $2 a day, and Total Body Fitness and Senior Fit Classes offered Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays! The Vintage and Classic Oval Snowmobile Races return to Grand Lake on December 30th. Watch and cheer as they race around the loop on frozen Grand Lake! See them again when they return in February during our fun-filled Winter Carnival in Grand Lake!


The Rocky Mountain Repertory Theater will be showcasing several events this December. Enjoy refreshments, a photobooth, and the movie “Elf” with the whole family at FREE Family Movie Night, beginning at 7pm on Friday, December 15th. There will be two opportunities to see the RMRT alumni tribute, “Home for the Holidays”, a heartwarming performance for all ages, at 7:30pm on Saturday, December 16th, and at 2pm on Sunday, December 17th. On December 31st, enjoy an exceptional performance by Matilde Bernabei and be treated to party favors and a champagne toast at the New Year’s Eve celebration from 9-11pm at the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theater.

Grand Lake is the place to be for New Year’s Eve! In addition to the New Year’s Eve party at Rocky Mountain Repertory Theater, you may delight in mulled cider and treats while taking in the Kauffman House Museum’s “exciting displays and very unusual turn-of-the-century artifacts” and awaiting the fireworks display right in front of the Museum! Kauffman House festivities will begin at 10pm and end just before the fireworks. The breathtaking annual fireworks display will begin over Grand Lake at midnight on Sunday, December 31st.
