1. Snowshoeing
Though weather dependent, warmer temperatures with chances for late-season snow make snowshoeing and cross-country skiing an enjoyable option for a sunny April day. Rangers at the Kawuneeche Visitor Center will be happy to tell you trail conditions and recommend their favorite spots for a peaceful outing in the snow. On a rainy April day, the Kawuneeche Visitor Center can be a great spot to take in exhibits, peruse the bookstore and watch an on-demand Park movie.
2. Birding & Wildlife Viewing
Rocky Mountain National Park is accessible from the West Entrance to the Colorado River Trailhead, allowing visitors to enjoy the first ten miles of the park for wildlife viewing and scenery. Moose, elk and deer can be spotted in the open meadows and along the Colorado River around dawn and dusk. Birding is another popular activity, and the appearance of Raptors and Mountain Bluebirds announce the coming of Spring. From the American Goldfinch to the Vesper Sparrow, Colorado County Birding has your guide for the most recent sightings and local birding hot spots.
3. Hot Springs
Open year-round, the superb staff at the Hot Sulphur Springs Resort & Spa are ready to pamper you with a variety of massages, and access to 21 indoor and outdoor pools. The relaxing, mineral-rich water offers tension-melting temperatures ranging from 95-112 degrees Fahrenheit.
